Why This Site Exists
North Carolina treats many jail and inmate records as public records under G.S. 132-1, while arrest-related public information is addressed separately in G.S. 132-1.4. The practical problem is not always access. It is often understanding the difference between a booking entry, a court case, a facility rule, and a custody record that may change after release or transfer.
What Is Covered
The pages on this site are organized around common record types and custody topics that come up after a booking, court appearance, or facility search.
- Lookup guidance for jail inmate records, jail roster mugshots, and court records after a jail arrest.
- Facility pages for Scotland County Detention Center and Scotland Correctional Institution, including custody context and visitor-rule summaries where available.
- Plain-language descriptions of booking records, court records, custody terms, visitation rules, mail rules, phone access, and commissary topics.
- Legal context for public records, arrest information, booking photos, expunction limits, and FCRA restrictions.
What This Site Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference site. It is not part of the Scotland County Sheriff's Office, the Scotland County Detention Center, NC DAC, any court, or any North Carolina government agency.
- We cannot release, hold, move, or transfer anyone in custody.
- We cannot post bond, schedule visits, place commissary funds, or arrange inmate calls.
- We cannot provide legal advice or explain how a person should handle a charge.
- We cannot certify that a custody entry, phone number, fee, or facility procedure is official.
Official custody systems control current status, charges, bond, and release decisions. This site can point to public lookup paths, but it is not the source of record.
Search Partners and Referral Disclosure
Some pages include search boxes or tools supplied by third-party providers. Those providers set their own prices, terms, and result rules. If a visitor follows a partner tool and signs up for a paid service, this site may receive a referral fee, which helps keep the county guide free to use. We do not control partner pricing, records coverage, or search results.
